Reconnect with nature

The heart of Rivergate Guest Farm

Set on 15 acres of sprawling farmland and beautifully landscaped gardens. Our feature flowers garden, bountiful picking garden, hard working kitchen garden and fruit orchard form the heart of the guest farm.

Designed by renowned landscape artist, Franchesca Watson, our gardens are a tranquil, picturesque retreat where nature lovers can walk amongst meticulously cultivated flowerbeds, flourishing orchards and bountiful vegetable gardens.

At the centre of the design is a wide pond with a fountain which acts as a magnet for our ducks and free-roaming dogs when they need to quench their thirst. Not only does the space captivate the eye, but it also serves an important purpose – proudly providing fresh, sustainable, organic produce to our eatery – The Barn. Here you can indulge in an authentic farm-to-table experience, and savour the flavours of our seasonal harvest.

Most recently, we’ve added a hot house to our growing garden, where we can now cultivate our own seedlings and keep indoor plants looking good for the cottages. This has really been a dream come true and we can’t wait to share this space with our guests who also love gardening.

The goal is for our garden to be the setting for dynamic experiences with food, creative workshops, animals, accommodation and more!

Garden Dwellers

Explore our gardens and you’ll quickly encounter our flock of free-roaming chickens. Not only do they form part of our farm community, they are a natural pest control solution in our gardens – happily dining on snails, insects and grubs, keeping our farm pest-free. They also provide a constant source of natural fertilizer – their manure being full of essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, which enriches the soil and improves its fertility.

At Rivergate Guest Farm, the chickens rule the roost! They also provide eggs daily with gorgeous orange yolks full of goodness. We use these in our breakfast baskets and sell them in the farm shop which is open Fridays and Saturdays, 10h00 to 15h00
